Hi. Need some advice if someone can help.
My fiancé a year ago hurt his brain so he lives in rehab now.
As I know, he uses all of his social security money to pay his rehab's fee.
I still want to marry with him because I want to take care him, but one of his friends warned me if I marry him I will have to pay $3000/mo for his rehab's fee.
I'm not rich so I can't afford...and also I have to marry him to stay and take care him. (I am not American)
Does marrying him mean his rehab will charge me money like that?
Or maybe the price won't be so high like that? (I think if the price is fair then I can pay for it for sure!)
By the way we are in KY.

Find Care & Housing
Bad idea to marry later in life. Overnight you become financially responsible for another. Do not marry.

You can care for him without getting married.   I would strongly advise against it

Marrying someone in this situation for immigration purposes is a horrible idea and probably won’t work out the way you want it to. Don’t marry him. $3,000 a month for rehab is actually very cheap and his marital status has nothing to do with the cost. The cost is the same whether he’s married or not. How it’s paid for is what may change.

Thanks for answer.
I know most of people will said "dont marry him. you still can take care him without marry"
But the problem is I am not American.
if I want stay in America with him....as I know the only way is marry with him.
I know the prize is the same...but I wonder how much.
because his social security money only about 700-800
So who paid the rest of it?(I mean..he live in rehab already a year)
also...I read some information online talk about "Spouse property protection"
Not sure that will work out....anybody know about this?
because when i move to US. Basically I don't have any property(no money no bank account)
I don't know what will rehab will do if we marry...kick him out?
thanks for reply. but we still trying...any suggestion we will think about it.

I would think he is on Medicaid if all he has is SS. The cost of a NH is about 10k a year. That 3k maybe what Medicaid pays or you Fiance has assets.

If he has "hurt his brain" he may not be confident to get married. He has to understand what he is doing and being able to sign the paperwork.

What I see is that if he only has SS he is not going to be able to care for you. Does he have family? If someone has POA they may be able to keep you from marrying if he is found incompetent. You have to get permission from immigration too. They may not allow it.

thanks for reply.
I already pass the VISA so I think the immigration is not the problem now.
and his account dont have any money anymore because he live in rehab...all of his deposit already gone. and before he dont have too much too.
and he dont have any family anymore. a lady of his friend have his Guardianship now.
I talk to him everyday he basically getting better and know what is he doing.
but about Guardianship have to see the doctor I guess...and because COVID noone can reassess.
Well...I think is not the problem the lady who have his guardianship will stop us.
but we have to figure out what to do is better to find out what is the best for him.
