Don't want an alarm clock. Is there a simple electronic timer out there that could be set to wake her after 1 2 hours? She doesn't like the old style kitchen timer, the the ticking keeps her awake. She doesn't over sleep in her naps very often but we've had a couple low sugar ER visits in the past.

There are digital kitchen timers that make no noise except when they ring. Get them at Walmart, Target, or any store like that.

I don't think kitchen timers will be up to the job.

Thanks Dave and Judy. I need to wake her from nap in 1 or 2 hours. Am going for visit after Easter and will have a timer to try out. Mom has suffered from depression off and on her whole life. We never know what will set it off but she just wants to sleep and misses her meals and meds. She knows as diabetic she has to eat but we've had some bad insulin coma events.

I set alarms in my phone. I have choices in sounds. I will use the sounds of nature when I want a gentle reminder. I know there are clocks that will do the same thing. I do not keep my phone with me at all times, but it will remind me that it is time to do something important and it will remind me when I am at work, out shopping, or cleaning the tub. I like the portable reminder.

I bought a simple kitchen timer for my mom when she was in a senior independent living center because she would often fall asleep and miss her meals. She is also diabetic. It would have worked fine in the earlier stages of her dementia when she had only mild cognitive impairment. However, because of her progressing dementia she forgot to set it or even that she had it. I believe I got it at Walmart or Meijers and it did make a little bit of a ticking noise, but not bad. Since she was a little hard of hearing it wouldn't have mattered anyways. Not sure if she would have known how to shut it off as she was advancing into the moderate stages by then.

I was talking to our local center for independent living and she recommended these little alarm thingies. Looks like Amazon has them for like $30. Big, bright buttons too. Name: Medcenter Talking Alarm Clock And Medication Reminder

I have a pill reminder box that has 4 different alarms. I use it for timers. I have 2 of them. Also the alarm will ring for a time and set itself off. You can also turn it off but timers can be changed if you want or continue to be set for the same times. Maybe that would work for her.
