She's 90, has all her faculties, has some issues with balance and vision yet has asked me to find a place. We have gone to La Mesa Senior Center together for Bingo. Is there a place where they have, as she says a "daycare for seniors," to gather that just need limited assistance?
It’s not just bingo! You will find, painting, Bridge, chair yoga, field trips, dancing and exercise. My 100 year old cousin has been going for years!
I attended a caregiver group that was held at an assisted living facility. It was wonderful. A social worker led the group.
They have wonderful activities for seniors at assisted living facilities.
So glad she is willing to socialize and enhance her quality of life.
I am sure they refer people to Day Programs all the time.
Also check with the Park District and the Library.
The library may need Volunteers to read to kids during the Summer and maybe even help with other projects. If she would like to do that sort of thing.
We do not know where you live.
Contact your county's senior services department.
And/or ask your mom's social worker or anyone associated with her healthcare for referrals.
That she has issues with vision and vision means that she will need to be 'watched,' / escorted everywhere, every step.
You need to either look / research on the internet (in your county) or start with your county "City Hall" or government agency.
A young(er) person will know how to research if you do not. Ask a kid in high school ... or perhaps call a university and ask for a volunteer in their social work or geriatric programs (B.S. or Masters' programs).
