Acknowledgment of Disclosures and Authorization
By proceeding, I agree that I understand the following disclosures:
I. How We Work in Washington. Based on your preferences, we provide you with information about one or more of our contracted senior living providers ("Participating Communities") and provide your Senior Living Care Information to Participating Communities. The Participating Communities may contact you directly regarding their services. APFM does not endorse or recommend any provider. It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.
IV. No Obligation or Commitment. You have no obligation to use or to continue to use our services. Because you pay no fee to us, you will never need to ask for a refund.

Your loved one may not require home care or assisted living services at this time. However, continue to monitor their condition for changes and consider occasional in-home care services for help as needed.
Remember, this assessment is not a substitute for professional advice.
Share a few details and we will match you to trusted home care in your area:
Just remember that your loved one is not the only resident they are caring for. Most likely they are understaffed. LO will have to wait their turn, often times.
Just about everyone at the SN facility my mother is in is in a wheelchair if not in bed all the time. Before my mother's accident they had taught her to wheel up to the sink to brush her teeth and they even said blow dry her hair which if true is astounding because I doubt she ever did that at her height of competency although she was born in 1930 and don't know when hair dryers became a household item. Now about all she can do physically is attempt to feed herself and drink with a straw if she can reach the drink.
Sometimes when looking at old pictures I become sad because I feel I look so slovenly. It's just very different from how I raised our 3 children (of course my husband was involved but not that much in the wardrobe department). Anyway that's my description of level of care.
There are Minimum Standards that each facility has to follow. You can review a facilities rating on the Medicare website. But there are a number of residents, all needing different levels of care. And there is a limited number of staff to care for them. You will often read responses on this site responding to a question urging the poster to “pick your battles” this is also true when you are an advocate for someone living in a facility. Does not matter if it is IL, AL, MC or SNF. Obviously if it is a safety matter, a matter of dignity you need to voice concerns. If it is a matter that they have cut back on activities or once in a while mom has on someone else’s pants or shirt I would not be as concerned. If they are not changing a resident, the resident is soiled for an extended period of time, the staff is not changing mom’s position often enough so she is getting some skin breakdown these are critical and I would be complaining. If complaints are not addressed by the facility and ignored file a complaint with the State Ombudsman.
