Anyone cared for loved one with a folley catheter? I know a strong fishy or foul odour might indicate a UTI, and it happened before, but for the past week the catheter bag gave off a strong heightened urine smell. I changed a new one and it still did not get rid of the smell. Worried if this is another UTI.
This is one type, made by AZO:

My late husband had a supra pubic catheter for the last 2 years of his life and there were several times that he developed a UTI, and his catheter bag never smelled bad. It was usually a fever that tipped me and the hospice nurse off to an infection.
Worrying whether your loved one has "another UTI" isn't going to cure it, so call their doctor today to get them tested for one.
Thanks for the info.
