My father is now having daily delusions usually about theft, legal issues that don’t exist, being “held hostage” in his apartment, having his driver’s license taken away, etc. He is calling me non stop and leaving messages about these issues. I’ve had to block his number but I still get the voicemails.
This has been progressively getting worse over the past several weeks.
I had the police do a welfare check and they said he was not a danger to himself or anyone else. They told me I could file for an emergency petition but that will only get him sent somewhere for a 3 day hold.
I am not close with him. Never have been. But I have always been his “go to” person when he needed something. He stopped speaking to me in October (you can read my previous question thread for the details),
I do not want guardianship or anything like that, but I do feel a responsibility to take some action since he is my father.
He does not have the financial resources for a care facility and I don’t think he qualifies for any Medicaid care since he is still feeding himself, bathing, etc.
He has no one in his life.

Call the local Adult Protective Services and tell them what you’ve related here, that he’s a vulnerable person in need of help. I’m sorry you’re experiencing this with your dad

Agree with contacting APS and getting him on their radar. That's as much as you can do. May you gain peace in your heart.

You are wise not to want POA or guardianship, imho.

Report your father to APS for evaluation. Suggest to him that he may have a UTI and needs an MD to check. Suggest this to APS as well. Let APS know you do not want guardianship and would allow guardianship of the state if needed.

Other than this, and welfare checks, there's not a lot you can do that I can think of so I hope others have some ideas for you.
