My husband is 82. Active. We both sit and watch TV for most of the evening... about 7 to 11:30. He sleeps mostly on his side... rarely on his back. We are seeing our dermatologist on this coming Monday. (called over 2 weeks ago) I am surprised by this skin condition. It is more than the size of a 50 cent piece. It is red and mean looking. Some parts are scabby and others look like little tares in the skin with red blood. The surrounding area is very deep red/ purple. He does not complain of pain. We just bought a cushion with a whole in it... donut... for him to sit on. Any suggestions for healing? Is this a pressure sore? Thank you.

And a recliner chair can take most of the body weight off the bottom.
It eventually healed with treatment.
I use a cheap square inflatable pressure cushion (costs around £13, so maybe $18) , which you can buy on Amazon. It's made of softish blue plastic with a lot of holes in it (think of a waffle with actual holes where the indentations are). You semi-inflate it, and then put it under the part with the sore. When the person moves, the air inside moves around too and the pressure on the skin changes. I've successfully used this to help heal Stage 2 - 3 sores. You can put it on a chair or on the bed. Cheap and effective, and saves a lot of money and grief.
Okay, don't laugh but this one is highly rated by nurses here in Louisiana. Can order online. Boudreaux's Butt Paste. Walmart has it.
