I have an aunt that has been accepted into assisted living but she is worried that if she is unable to meet the requirements for assisted living she will not have a home to return back.

Find Care & Housing
I'm curious what kinds of requirements she is afraid she won't meet? It would be good to be able to reassure her about all this.

SOmeone with more technical knowledge of the Medicaid process will answer you in more detail but here's the deal. One's home is an "exempt asset" as far as Medicaid is concerned. They will place a lien on it and you can't transfer it or leave it to someone (although a spouse or dialed child can have the use of it). The state gets its money from the sale of the house after the elder who has received care has passed away .

Star Plus is Texas Medicaid. No, they will NOT touch the home while she is still alive. She can return to it if she improves. BUT who will take care of it while she is in Assisted Living? In mom's case, we rent the house to others.
