Mom is in the hospital we all kinda know she’s going but when do we make a plan for hospice care? No one likes to talk about it but I feel it’s time she could go this week no matter what they are doing in the hospital she’s barely on life support at the moment and feeding tubes this might be it. So should we make a move now?
Hospice can care for mom at home, or where ever she goes once discharged from the hospital.
If she is discharged with feeding tubes Hospice will not request that they be removed. If she is on IV’s Hospice will not continue IV’s for fluids.
Hospice will provide all the supplies and equipment that you would need to care for her.
I would call several and “interview” them. There are two basic types. For profit and Not for profit. Also keep in mind that you can change your mind. If you decide that you do not want Hospice it can be discontinued and mom can go back to her PCP.
As daughter1930 says, please notify the social worker and her doctor that you need hospice ASAP.
Hospice will keep her as comfortable as possible during this period.
It’s a difficult time. My mom is on hospice now. I am pleased with their compassionate service.
Take advantage of the social worker and clergy if you wish.
She can't be on hospice if she's in the hospital.
