Find Care & Housing
You will probably need a nurse or CNA to do this and ensure she takes them. Sometimes a nurse from doctors offices will free lance and be willing to do this for a fee. Check with your doctors office or your mom's doctors office.

Second option is to contact liscenced in home care Agency and they can arrange for someone. They have minimal billing hrs but it can be worth it for peace of mind.

If you have a trusted neighbor, maybe they would be willing as long as YOU meter out the dosages ahead of time in those weekly pill dispensers (the ones they have compartments for am and pm.

Make sure whoever does this understands the dosing, intervals, cautions with food and drink intake, etc.

Good luck.

I have been told by AL facilities here that they do not manage medicines and they do not remind their tenants when meal time is. And they do not serve meals into the residents room. I feel like asking, what do you do besides clean 3 xwk and help bathe which my pop does not need. What is crucial is that he gets his insulin 3x daily and checked for bp. There should be something between constant nursing and AL like that is a step between the 2.

butterflygrl, I'm in Minnesota and my mom's AL does all the things your AL does not. They administer meds (extra fee) and take them to meals. It's an extra $8.00 for a meal to be delivered to their room, which thankfully we don't need. In fact I bring my mom homemade meals for dinner which the caregivers heat up in mom's microwave, simple one or two minutes tops.

Your state must have some of those whacked out guidelines I've read about. Wish I had some good advice for you. You are in a tough situation. Perhaps if you mentioned which state your father lives in, you can get some advice.

My best to you.

I am in Texas an dmaybe I just got a hold of one that is lame. I don't know since I am new to all of this. I wish my dad could be more independent because even thought he has dementia, he is aware enough to know that the people he is surrounded with are alot further down the road and need that constant care. He can hear, he remembers some things, He knows what foods he doesn't like and wants to have. He might do well on his own, I don't know. He is so antsy to get out of this place that he calls me constantly begging me to get him out. He thinks he is in prison. He is definitely aware of bodily functions, he just isn't quite with it when it comes to why he is there or what kind of place it is. He thinks he is there working and that the job is finished. I just meet him where he is and gently probe. I think he could be more independent. They also said that he had to not be one to leave and walk out into traffic. I can't guarantee that he wouldn't do something like that so it seems the only other option is NH :( I am trying to arrange for him to live with me but I am not set up for it yet.
thanks windytown- you are a kind one.
