Despite several attempts by myself and siblings, my mother continues to drive on an expired license.
She is very defiant and stubborn regarding all of our various attempts to keep herself and others safe. She feels that it is not a big deal and will get to renewing it on her own terms, but it has been expired for almost a year. What are our options both legal and emotionally in dealing with this situation.

Take it from someone who was hit by a person who had once had an expired license and drove and then ran a red light. That person helped ruin my life and make me partially disabled. Report her to police and then let her deal. Don't take her around and be her slave. People that have that much energy to be defiant and stubborn think they are above the law. If she has that much energy and health to be a pain in the butt, then she has that much energy to get her dang licence renewed. She is no better than anyone else and needs to obey the law. Sorry, but people like that go all over my last nerve.
I read an article the other day in Guidepost about this elderly woman who wanted all this praise for giving up her licence. Turns out she had two wrecks in 3 months by running red lights and ripping the side panels of her car completly off. Yeah, real prize.

Take the keys and disable the car. A friend of mine has arranged for a local car service to take her mother around. Your mom may be upset with the loss of her car but you may have a lot more to deal with of she is stopped by the police of if someone is hurt by accident.

Take her car away and be willing to drive her around.. Or call the cops on her, but you'll still need to take the car....
