My Mother has a light form of dementia. I do have POA and presently pay all the bills and handle the checking account. Mom will make several trips to the bank and make cash withdraws for no reason. Yesterday she made two withdraws for the same amount. I do give her spending money that is more than enough to meet here needs for the week/month. Mom and I have discussed this several times. She has at times caused several overdrafts and penalties due to taking more money out than is in the account. Mom and I have discussed this several times. She says that she would never do that but does. As POA am I able to remove Mom from the checking account? Mom lives independently and in the adjacent state.

I would provide the bank with a notarial copy of the POA and invoke a weekly limit on withdrawals. I did that and when my mother called from the NH (at a time when she was still lucid) and tried to order cheques they said no. These days she can't dial the phone by herself so we've got past her calling and ordering goods & services which I then had to undo.

I would call the bank and ask them what your options are. Maybe they have dealt with this before. I'm thinking maybe a daily/weekly withdrawal limit..
