I’m getting very nervous because she just barely doesn’t qualify. I can’t leave her alone. I have no problem taking care of her. I haven’t been able to have any income since 2018. I cared for my mad until his passing in 2022. Does any one know of a way I can make money from home or for being her caregiver ? Any help is appreciated!

Have you spoken to a Medicaid planner or Elder Law attorney about doing a Miller Trust or spend down to get her qualified for Medicaid?

She can pay you directly but I strongly suggest a written contract and keeping above-board records of payments for if/when the time comes to apply for Medicaid.

FYI in most states Medicaid covers the medical part of LTC, not AL or MC. A doctor needs to assess someone as needing LTC (and this is the 2nd part of qualifying for Medicaid: medical necessity). This very often means someone is bedbound and cannot do most of their ADLs, or requires special daily attention.

I agree with talking to an elder law or estate planning attorney who is familiar with Medicaid, or a Medicaid Planner for your home state. A Miller Trust may be an option for your Mom.
