Pysicial therapist at the rehab said to wait until he is weight bearing. He wants to come home November 30. Will he need a wheelchair to bring him home? He says he does not want to come in a wheelchair. What should I do? He says if he comes home in a wheelchair he wants to stay in rehab and also if he comes home in a wheelchair he will be very depressed. Please answer me soon .
Depending on the severity of the foot surgery, maybe he can just use crutches, but those are actually a lot more dangerous than you'd think.
Is he going to be wheelchair bound when he stays home? Or can he use a 'scooter' once he's actually in the house?
I had a major foot surgery in July and it took 16 weeks to heal--for 8 weeks I was non-weight bearing and stuck, stuck, stuck in this house!! I did get very depressed, and that's normal, but no fun.
You need help moving him, if he can't put weight on his foot. Wheelchair or no, you'll need help.
Ask the Dr or the SW at the NH to steer you in this. I imagine that he no longer needs the level of care at Hebrew House, and that's why they're sending him home.
Does he have any cognitive lapses? That could be playing into his pushback about the wheelchair.
You now really need to talk to the Social Worker. Its her job to help you figure things out. You need to explain to her what you may need. She can set up homecare if warrented.
Glad to hear ur husband is doing better.
It seems like you need someone there where you live to help you make these decisions and manage things with your husband. It's been recommended by people on this forum that you speak to the social worker at your husband's rehab facility...have you been doing that? If not, why not?
Is there someone in your complex who you can talk to, like an administrative person in the office? (Leisure World in Silver Spring, Maryland).
Or do you belong to a church or synagogue that has a pastor or rabbi who can help you make decisions? Please call these people since they live near you and can be more helpful, and meet with you in person to get your questions answered.
Again, can you please post a response briefly to this question so that we know if you're reading them? Wishing you much success in finding the right helpers.
Good advice about getting in touch with his on campus social worker.
We don't realize how important our feet are until they are injured and hurting.
