As you might already know of myself and concerning my mom and that she keeps breaking condominium rule by feeding strays cats outside her place and since the properties are in my name, I'm the one who gets fined every time she des this. She's destroying my investment (her condo) by her having in there 3 cats already and the things I had repaired are already smugged with cat food all over the place and being that there are 3 large cats those animals are damaging the carpet. I love my mom a lot but she can't be living by herself and to care for these animals and she has thinning bones syndrome. She lives in a 2 story condo in which the animals do their stuff upstairs in the cat boxes but she has to take that residue that the cats leave up there and carry them down the stairs, and can cause her to have an accident. I work out of town and out of state sometimes. I'm her only son but have a lot on my plate but can't be having this happen all the time with her not adhering to the condo rules. She threatens me to run away if I try to put her in an assisted living place and there aren't enough resources for that. I am working with the state of Texas health and human services to see what they can do. They've arranged to have a cleaning lady go there 3 times a week. But she can't be by herself breaking condo rules with feeding animals outside. Any suggestions? I do appreciate it. I am her dpoa and I'm handling the monthly dues for these condos (3) we have. I'm the one who handles all the responsibilities for my mom. It's really heavy on me . Stresses me out and even lost weight when being here visiting her and see what garbage of a place she has her condo in. I can't have that a investment destroyed just because she wants to keep those 3 cats inside and also keep feeding those stray cats around here.
Your mother CAN'T follow the no feeding rules. Not won't, or won't listen, or won't learn. She can't do it. The one thing that is NOT going to happen is your mother's compliance. So whatever way you do find through this problem, it isn't going to be that. Scrub it as a goal and it, at least, will stop driving you crazy.
The condo is happy to keep fining you, but what is its management doing about the presence of stray cats? Can they work with local animal welfare or city organisations to get them rounded up, or prevented from coming into the grounds? Maybe your HHS contacts could also lean on their colleagues to get something done about it.
Cleaning lady visits 3 x week are a start, but what would be better are 2 x daily calls specifically to support your mother with cat care - feeding and litter tray. Could you afford that? I've seen support plans that include help with companion animals so I know it's not unheard of. Then the cat food could be stored away out of reach between visits, and all cats are happier with hygienic toilet facilities too.
