I would. I have not experienced this with either my husband or my mother, but I have read that many persons with dementia crave an outlet for their nurturing instincts. A doll gives them something to be in charge of. The Alzheimer Store has a truly beautiful and realistic baby doll for this purpose, which indicates how common this need is.

Many dolls are small, to fit a child's hands. Mom should have one more the actual size of a baby. That also has the advantage of allowing the use of real baby dolls, often available at garage sales and thrift stores. If you do this, please let us know how it works out for you. We learn from each other!

I do not have dementia..or Alzheimer's ..Thankfully..but my heart still loves my Children..and sometimes..I would love to go back to day when they were babies..so she has a loving heart..be ever so grateful...as with my husband..the loving heart is good 5 out of 7 days...but then comes a monster..I do not know..who will want to jab you with his elbow if you are too close..who will do something to hurt you like spray raid and kill all the fish in the tank...and things that Make me cringe to even tell you...most days I am trying to keep him happy and upbeat...he wants to take a drive and go somewhere ever single day...or he gets mad...so I take him to thrift stores..with a lil money..only....Maybe if you can...when she is looking for a baby...Ask her what she remembers most about her babies...maybe you will hear some very loving story you never heard before and make your day worth all the care and devotion you put into it..!!! Hugs to you!

I think getting her a doll is a great idea. One of the woman at my FIL's facility has one and she just loves it. They make some very realistic looking baby dolls now. When I first saw this woman with the doll, I thought it was a real baby! It can't hurt to get her one and see if she likes it.

They have dolls at my mother's place, the first time I took my mother to the lounge to make her dinner and have some cake I brought up for her, I freaked out because I saw two kids sitting on chairs by the window, turns out they were life-sized dolls. I brought my mother a bear for cuddling, she will stuff it in her shirt when she leaves her bed, along with all those tissues.
