My mom (69)is in a rehab/nursing facility RN because she recently had a foot amputation due to her being diabetic and getting a foot infection. She's barely been eating and she's having a lot of diarrhea. Is this normal? She's on antibiotics rn so could that be the reason she's feel like this? I know lack of appetite and diarrhea could be early signs her dying and before I get all worked up about it. I wanted some insight from people who have been through similar.

It really could be the antibiotics, but I understand your concern. So sorry, hope things get better 😔 ❤️

The diarrhea is more than likely from the antibiotics than anything else. They are very tough on the gut. The problem here if this is chronic explosive diarrhea now, this may be C-difficile. When antibiotics wipe out bad bacteria they get rid of the good bacteria as well. The result can be C-diff which is very difficult to get rid of. You should ask them to run a test for this on her stools.
Antibiotics as well as other meds greatly decrease the appetite.
