My sister was placed in a nursing facility last summer. She is having memory and physical problems. I now have a POA and am digging through her finances and found that she has not paid takes for the last several years. The IRS is sending threatening letters. I am working to get info from her former employer, but the I need to get 1099's from from Social Security for the last four years. I have called several times and they do not take POA as authorization to give me that information. How can I get this info so I can get file her taxes?
If the IRS is hounding you can you contact them back and explain the situation thoroughly. I am sure there are others who have had to endure this. If you indicate an attempt to solve this issue perhaps they can give you some guidance.
The SSA will send her mail to your sister's address. Did anyone ever change her address to the NH? Was her mail being forwarded? My husband is PoA for his mom and used our own home address on her Medicaid app so we got her 1099.
