Find Care & Housing
Is she on MediCARE hospice? If so, I’d speak with her hospice provider as respite care is part of the hospice benefit. I’d bet the hospice group knows what facilities do respite care & likely they already go to them to see clients. So there would be overlap & hospice could facilitate placement.

If this is private pay, it should be pretty easy as long as she’s willing & her care needs are reasonable for either AL or NH. Often AL & NH will quietly have available short term stays of a week as a way for elders to get familiarized with the place and then decide they want to live there. Id imagine prorated rent for a week with an extra activity fee & paid upfront.

Place may want either a current care plan to see if her needs can be met OR require you & her to do a “play date” or mini day before this where she goes over abt 9:30 to meet with admissions do a tour (both of you on this part) and then she solos in participating in a regular activity and stays for lunch at a table of residents. Then you both leave. It gives all a reading on if she’s ok for the level of care they can do.

My moms 2nd NH & my aunts AL both did private pay respite stays. It seemed some families did weeklong stays on a pretty routine basis for their widowed parent 2-3 Times a year.
