The Participating Communities may contact you directly regarding their services. APFM does not endorse or recommend any provider. It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.
IV. No Obligation or Commitment. You have no obligation to use or to continue to use our services. Because you pay no fee to us, you will never need to ask for a refund.
V. Complaints. Please contact our Family Feedback Line at (866) 584-7340 or ConsumerFeedback@aplaceformom.com to report any complaint. Consumers have many avenues to address a dispute with any referral service company, including the right to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office at: Consumer Protection Division, 800 5th Avenue, Ste. 2000, Seattle, 98104 or 800-551-4636.

You do not give any background here. Generally it sounds like APS is working with probate. They do not take your $$$. You may get an approved conservator in the process. Look for a letter coming in the mail about a legal hearing. You will need to get to court on that date to appeal on your own behalf or you can hire a lawyer to do this. What does not go in your favor is to do nothing. Asking us for opinions does no good if you give us no background on what is happening.
APS is involved with you because there is some pressing need for them to be. You say in the comments that you are behind on rent. Why are you behind on rent? If APS is starting proceedings to 'manage' your money as you say, then your money is almost certainly SSI benefits and that would be the taxpayers' money. So, if you're being supported by us, that money is supposed to be appropriately spent to support you. That means paying your share of the rent and bills and complying with whatever your caseworker or APS worker tells you to comply with.
On the recommendation of APS, the court will probably appoint a conservator over your finances and likely your person for a period of time until you are able to prove that you can manage both on your own.

That is to say, did family request wellness assessment or did a hospital request it? Or did you call APS yourself and report yourself as a senior in need, or adult in need? APS itself will not manage your finances; however they can request a court or family member to serve as conservator or guardian if they feel you are unable to handle your own finances.
Do you know if APS took a case to a judge for conservatorship or guardianship? Do you know if a conservator or guardian have been assigned to you? Did you have a case before the court and were you assigned a representative?

Your age will help. How did APS get involved? Someone must be concerned about you? Do u have health concerns? I would think APS is helping you with services to help make ends meet. Maybe its felt u need someone to manage your money? Maybe you will be able to choose someone to be your payee.
