Free goverment smart phones.

Don't believe the free part. Medicaid recipients get cell phones with only a limited number of minutes per month. Some allow texting. That's it. If you have internet data usage, it can get very expensive.

I see on your profile that your husband lives in Independent Living, is that correct? Chances are he wouldn't qualify for the government free telephone [which was started by President Ronald Reagan]. One would need to qualify, thus be low income.

With Independent Living, usually the facility will let a resident borrow one of their landline telephones for their apartment, or you can go to Target and get a landline phone which is inexpensive. If not, usually in the lobby is a telephone that the resident can use.

The free phones that is possible to get are not smart phones.

They are very basic cell phones. Usually with no data plan, limited text, limited minutes.
