Find Care & Housing
Dear Jej1930,

I know its hard to find a good mover on such short notice. But I would try Google and see what comes up. Or Yelp. Or calling the local Seniors Association and see if they have any recommendations on good movers. Another good choice is the Better Business Bureau listings for movers.

I've just recently learned that there are companies which specialize in this sort of move, or to move an older person to an AL or IL facility. I don't know that there's a specific category for these folks who want to help older people move, but I've learned about them from a few sources:

Senior centers, Alzheimer's Assn. and/or Area Agency on Aging. I don't know if comparable organizations exist in Canada, but you could start by googling each of those categories for the Castlegar area.

Some local community governments might have a senior division; in my area our county produces lists of all sorts of companies that provide senior help.

Contacting a local tv station might help; they seem to enjoy good works and have a more extensive reach out into the community than an individual person would. It might be if they did a public service announcement to this effect that they'd find someone more quickly than if you researched this online.

Legislators are also potential candidates. I don't know when Canadians have their next election, but that's a good motivation for them to attract senior votes. And some might have lists of potential candidates.

Some of the regulars here are Canadians and might be able to offer more insight and suggestions.

I assume you've already contacted all the regular movers?
My first though is "impossible!", any move would be difficult enough given the short time frame but I expect going from the mainland to the island is going to cause all kinds of complications. You don't mention how much needs to be moved, if it is just an apartment is it possible to pay for an extra month in Castlegar?

Jej1930, with the move being a 9 hour drive, you might do better calling the well known national van lines. If they care totally booked, they might sub-contract out to smaller companies to help.
