My mom lives in a Nursing Home..76 yrs old, very good mind...but, some bad behavior problems !!!Breaks my heart, to see her go from sweet and kind ...then can change in a instant. There is something about the caregivers waking her up in the morning for breakfast, it really gets her upset, to this rage screeming and cursing them out to get out of her room. She can be so demanding, wanting everything her way !! Then sometimes tell us she don't remember acting that way, I am really confused, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with there mom or dad ?

I'd say her mind isn't as good as you might think it is. Sounds like dementia to me. I could be wrong.....

She is in the hospital right now, because she has went through so many room mates. She has always been a controlling person, but yet a very loving person. My dad divorced her at her age of 41. She really had it hard, and finished raising me and my sister. At age 52, had a heart attack, several min. strokes, and has been in poor health for many yrs now. She is bed fast too. Depends on me and my sister to carry her meals to her at the nursing home..I guess you can say we do have her spoiled. I just have a hard time understanding where she has been through soo much sickness, not much enjoyment in life, now at this age, knowing she needs the care of others, can be like a baby one minute, and turn on someone so fast !!

76 is young. Why is she in a NH and not an asst. living center? Has she been diagnosed with Dem/Alz?
It could be so many things that effect her behavior. A bad UTI can have similar symptoms. A change in medications or a new one can do that too. Also, are they medicating her for her behavioral issues? I hope not. These meds have serious side effects.
You need to ask more questions and ask what they are giving her. If they are giving her a narcotic in the evenings it may effect how she wakes up in the morning (ie: drowsy, unaware of her surroundings, etc.)
If her behavior is out of the ordinary, I think that I would get to he bottom of it.
Also, can they come a little later to give her breakfast so she can wake up slowly?
good luck

She is on a anti-depressant, but alot of the problem is she has a room-mate. We live in a very small town, the nursing home has rooms that keep 2 to a room, mom just dont like when she is sleepy for the company of the other room-mate's family visiting, and she wants to go to sleep, if they are talking and laughing loud, she will blumtely, tell them to shut-up, and sometimes screem at her aides. she try to tell us we don;t understand !! then sometimes she says she don't remember...confuses me ): After a stroke about 8 yrs ago, she went and checked herself in, not wanting me or my sister to wait on her, but still we go and visit with her or at least call her everyday. I just wish we had some ansers !!

Yes, my mom has the same problem, but she has been diagnosed with Alzheimers. She punches and throws water on the aids. She doesn't eat much and refuses to take her meds. My friend is a nurse and has told me I need to be more assertive with the nursing home and make them take responsibility for her and find creative ways to work with my mom. I admit my mom's a handful, but the nursing home charges $140 a day for a bed and they should show some effort to resolve these issues.

Yes, my mom has the same problem, but add hitting to the list. She punches and throws water on the aids. I don't have any wise advice. I just wanted you to know you're not the only one going through this.
