2 am Mom is yelling with all she has "get out of my house". I'm thinking if she's talking to me I'm out of here!! So I go to her and she is in the living room waving her arms everywhere still yelling. As I was walking towards her I slipped on something and fell. I came back up on my feet with the worst smell in the room. I looked to see what I slipped on and it was poop. While she is yelling for everyone to get out she is pooing all over the floor. I grab her and asked what is wrong, she says I want these people out of my house. I tried to explain to her that nobody was in her house. After listening to her tell me that she had been watching them come in and out for an hour I finally got her cleaned up and back to bed. As I was cleaning and disinfecting the floor I looked up to the sky and ask forgiveness for everytime I rolled my eyes when a new Mom said they could not remember if they showered or not. Why that came to my mind I have no idea!! After cleaning I sat on the side of my bed a laughed thinking this is my life now, then I cried. Is this the start of dementia or something else?

If this is new, have her checked for a UTI (urinary tract infection). In the elderly it can really cause hallucinations, etc. It may be dementia, but start with the easy to test for and meds can fix cause. This is a good trigger to set up an evaluation for your Mom with a geriatric specialist or psychiatrist for evaluation.

Kitkat, I agree with Guestshopadmin above about a possible UTI. If your Mom hasn't had any memory issues nor having sundowning then something else is going on.

What your Mom was doing early this morning would be more likely a much further stage of dementia if it was dementia. For my Dad I noticed more than just normal aging forgetfulness, my Dad was thinking he was still at work but he had missed the bus to come home [last time he took a bus to work was back in the 1940's].

Thank you so very much guestshopadmin and freqflyer. Called Moms Dr and he made a visit (he does not wanting her out in public especially sitting in a Dr office with sick people and she is only 72 lbs so her body doesn't have much to fight with) he verified it was a UTI. I never even knew a UTI could make one have hallucinations. God bless you both.

KitKat, like you I also was surprised about what happens to an elder if they get an UTI. It wasn't until I read about it on one of the threads not long ago. That was a huge help as couple months ago my Dad started to see ants all over the place... oops... it was a UTI.
