My husband has dementia and he urinates on our furniture, on our wood floors, in our window sills. Is there any suggestions on how to change his behavior?

Wow! That would be hard. I remember my dismay when my husband got up in the night, opened the closet door, and stood there peeing. Yikes! If this is constant for you, I expect it is extremely frustrating.

I did not have to resort to this, but it is an idea that comes to mind.
1) Make it hard for him to get his pants down/open and
2) Take him to the bathroom and help him every two hours or whatever seems to be a good schedule.

I think this would depend on his cognitive level and how cooperative he is.

#1 might be achieved by having him wear a wrap-style disposable incontinence item well taped shut. OR look up adaptive clothing and you will find one-piece jumpsuits that zip up the back. For men they remind me of coveralls that my mechanic-brother wears.

I hope others here will have additional ideas.

I also think talking to his doctor about this might be worthwhile.

If you find something that works, share! We learn from each other!

Thank you for your ideas. Unfortunately, this has become constant and his cognitive abilities negate reasoning. I've spoken with his nerou; no answers there. I've had to resort to elastic waist pants because he became manic opening and closing the zipper/snap. I've covered our living room and bedroom floors /furniture with plastic, but he finds an area that is not covered and pees there. Our house looks as if we are part of the tv show The Dome.

Hi Annie, the jumpsuits mentioned are helpful in this situation. They prevent others in the same situation from stripping down, yet are easy to help put on loved ones.
