Malaka, yes, stress can cause hypertension. Eating too much salt or eating a poor diet in general or being too stationary can also. Probably lots of other things as well. Take action to reduce it. Hypertension is a killer. Be sure to make time for yourself. Hopefully you have help with your care taking duties. Be more specific and perhaps we can help.

Malaka, oh yes, blood pressure can creep up to a too high level while doing caregiving, be it hands-on caregiving, logistical caregiving, or [gasp] both.

I never took blood pressure pills until into my 3 or 4th year of helping out my very elderly parents, plus trying to maintain my career which I had worked too hard to give up. I was constantly being tugged one way or another.

Blood pressure pills helped but the pills made me very sleepy. My cardiologist was able to reduce the dose to maintain a safe level and not zone me out.

Of course! This will definitely cause high blood pressure. As care-giving is a process in which one has to help another individual who is not in a position to perform his or her daily activities. This process needs lots of patience and caregiver has to go through a stressful period which includes physical as well as mental illness to give another person proper treatment. Besides performing your role as a caregiver, give yourself and your health some time also and take action to maintain the balance. If your health will be good, then only you will be able to take care of your loved ones.
