Dad, the tools: I am concerned your tools may get stolen from your porch. Do you want me to store them or not? Your choice.

Your guns: Your Doctor said No.
End of my conversation on this.

One more thing, if you want my help, please remember your manners. No manners, no help - got it?

'I've been on this earth longer than you', and have had time to offend more people than you!

VictoriaMcD, just chiming in that no, you are definitely not being too harsh. You are obviously a very kind and conscientious person and you have done everything an adult child could be expected to do and more in such a trying and tragic situation.

Best to you as you take the next steps you need to protect your own health and sanity!

Whatever you do, please ensure he has no way to EVER get his guns. No safes, no doctor's notes -- nothing. Make them disappear and feign ignorance as to where they went.

Find a way to destroy them, because I'm afraid that if you surrendered them to the police, they might return them to him if they're properly registered and he reports them stolen.

I share your concern about the guns! Definitely, they can’t be returned to him. It’s not safe for him or society at large.
