I simply can not grasp why some posts have Avatars so we know who is posting and we are responding to, and some do not? Is this an attempt by the mods to keep us more "civil ' to each other or just some random glitch. Today a poster actually posted her name at the bottom of her post and I so appreciated it! Knowing who I respond to keeps me from "over responding" to the same person. This is the sort of thing that is making me feel like my time here is shortly coming to an end, and that saddens me. Anyone else feeling like this? Not sure where to post this so I picked family caregivers...

I’m on an iPad using Safari & there are no Avatars or edits. I just switched to FireFox & the problem is still there.

AC said it was a glitch, and they’re trying to fix it. But as some people pointed out, could it have been done on purpose? (No avatars/names/dates)

Venting,

I miss seeing avatars and names but the name does appear in newsfeeds. Have no idea what would be the purpose of doing this on purpose.

Unless, it is felt that people can’t confront others about their posts.

There are certain posters who have outdated opinions and feel that we should be slaves to our elders. Of course, these posters will be confronted by caregivers and past caregivers.

We never see these particular posters, talking about their own caregiver issues! I suspect it is because their wives and sisters are doing all of the caregiving!

Was the bot incident ever explained fully? I remember seeing all of bot posts, but I don’t remember what was said about it.

I don’t think it was a bot that posted several questions with bad language. I think it was a person.

Hey, for those who suggest that we sign our names on the bottom when responding. we could have some fun if we are older posters who are done with our caregiving responsibilities.

My name doesn’t really fit any longer. So, I could go from NeedHelpWithMom to BeenThereDoneThat! LOL 😆

This really does remind me of the game show, To Tell the Truth. Three guest appear and the panel has to guess which one is the actual person that is actually the person who they are supposed to be.

I guessed many of them by their answers. Some I guessed incorrectly because the impostors were such good impersonators (or liars)!

I thought about changing my name after my caregiving stint ended but a poster said on the forum that she didn’t know who people were when people changed their screen names. So, I never bothered with changing my screen name and just say that I am no longer caregiving when it is necessary.

Does anyone else ever think about using a different name since their caregiver days have ended, if their name is no longer applicable?

Many long time posters have left, or are not posting much. I am getting worn out from questions that are just so heart breaking to read, or desperate situations that OPs got themselves in. I find myself posting less frequently. However, I am happy to see new posters joining the forum.

Has anyone seen Country Mouse and Alva lately?

BTW, I was having the same problems of no avatars, no names, no edit, but everything seems to be back to normal now on my laptop.

For those who still can't see names, this is polarbear, 7/25/23.

For me, everything is good on my laptop (including an edit button) and messed up on the mobile site. I have faith AC is working on fixing whatever coding went bonkers. It happens sometimes and tracking down what went wrong can take a long time. Until then, I'm focusing on using my laptop of which I prefer anyway.

I also miss the avatars.
A few times I put my name and date and time at the bottom of a reply but I more often forget until I hit "post answer" then since there is no edit I can't add the info.

And with no avatar all the replies seem to run together making it difficult to read and tell the difference between an answer and a "reply to______" comment.

I'll be sorry if this site goes down. Although fairly new here I did find this site a huge help in many ways. I have a fairly new laptop (less than a year old), lenovo brand, not an Apple, running Windows 11. I'm not getting many avatars, just every once in a while, no ability to edit my posts. I don't use my phone to access the site, so I don't know if it's working there. Hope it's fixed soon or I'll probably also drop out if it remains difficult to access/follow threads/comments, etc. From: Christine44

Hi Pam! I totally agree with you and am so glad you posted this! It's just too hard to follow the comments and to even consider adding to the conversation. This site now looks so antiquated and it just doesn't work well.

And you're right that maybe this is deliberately designed this way now, rather than being a glitch that AC is fixing ...in fact, I don't believe there's been any communication from them saying otherwise - it's been silent!

If so, I've lost my interest in following these posts - it's not easy on the eyes now to follow and just looks like a lot of gibberish - one comment goes into another - and yes, it's a great deterrent so that others won't pile on comments or continue a conversation. Maybe it makes less work for AC to monitor dialogue, but it's going to lose people's interest.

They would have resolved it by now I assume - I hope they reconsider because this site currently is not functioning the way it should for its forum participants. It's unappealing and doesn't draw me in to want to stay engaged in it.

We never used to have the reply option at all and we still didn't have it in discussions and frankly I think it is over used by people that just want to go off topic or start a war of word with a particular member. And when the OP comes back making individual replies they tend to bet lost unless you are dedicated to rereading the whole thread.

The AC website is a low-cost advertising strategy for APFM services. The perfect demographic does the work of searching for this type of site because they have questions or are in crisis.

The technical glitches are a result of either updating the site, changing the platform, a new (unskilled person) in charge of the website management/direct edits, etc. The platforms "improve" their technology all the time but it can result in unanticipated problems for each client.

Websites not only have to work on multiple devices (mobiles, tablets, laptops, watches) but also operating systems (Apple, Android) and multiple versions of each of those OS's. It's a headache and a constant learning curve. Every glitch can't be anticipated so the only way to know there's a problem is for people to report the problems like we've all been doing. It's not a hacking and not a conspiracy to manipulate us. It's just the p.i.a. reality of technology.

Re: Forum Oversight

Aging Care’s main business is selling care “products”, if you will.

A client may use Aging Care to find placement or care assistance for a LO, or for themselves.

This forum is an off-shoot of that. It’s not their main business.

I see it as a free “benefit” for people like me, who will never actual avail themselves of the main part of Aging Care’s business.

They may not have someone monitoring the forum at all times, because they may not have the staff to do so.

It’s not like Facebook, where one of the main parts of their business is their “forum”, where they sell advertising to encourage people to use those advertised business.

Since Aging Care is “giving” this forum to me for free, I prefer to just roll with the punches, rather than get angry about what’s going on.

This latest avatar glitch is confusing, but I still very much see the benefits of this forum as outweighing any challenge with its use.

In the meantime, we can sign our posts, using our chosen screen name. We can help each other that way.

Best wishes,
Cxmoody

It is messed up on both my IPhone AND my PC— not a Mac.
Someone had mentioned trying Firefox instead of Chrome, but that made no difference for me, still no avatars, and no names attached to replies, and no time stamps. It is nearly impossible to follow the “flow” of a thread.
I have emailed the administrators as well, inquiring as to a fix, and like all of you, no response.
So to answer your question, Pamz, yes I am ready to leave the forum. The frustration this has caused is enough to drive people away.

There seems no rhyme or rhythm to the different ways computers and devices are affected by these recent problems, which I would think would make it very difficult to figure out and fix the problem(s). A possibility is that some time back, someone on the administrative side put something new on the site (perhaps a link or a new app) and then everything got messed up. If you're not a real "techie," it's very hard to be like a detective, and try to go backwards and restore things to the way they were before something changed.

putting your info a heading is a great idea. I also feel that there is a reason why the site admin has not addressed this issue.

It would be appreciated if AC would be forthcoming about that one way or the other. Either it is a glitch or it is a way to manage the site. It’s been nearly a week now that it has been this way.

I wrote AC last week but they are radio silent. I think my message deserves a response.
