87 y/o mother was given your standard hospital bed by her health insurance. She's currently bed bound due to lack of mobility from a 3 month hospital stay. She will be getting intense PT weekly until we can at least get her in and out of a car. Over the past 4 months, the bed is starting to wear out and needs replacing. She is used to sleeping horizontally on a queen sized bed, so she's always trying to sleep in that position on the twin sized hospital bed, making her very sore in the mornings. Nothing we do keeps her from sliding into a horizontal position.
Does anyone have suggestions or experiences on those normal queen sized adjustable beds? We don't mind investing or doing a little extra caregiving if it'll make her more comfortable and avoiding aches and pains in the morning.
Thank you in advance.
much easier for her to get in it. I think the name of the company is Assure
The bed can be raised or lowered to make it easier to get in and out of.
The bed can be raised to make changing the bedding.
The bed can be raised to make changing and cleaning a person easier. (and safer)
Most of the mattresses on a hospital bed are easily cleanable and can be sanitized.
If you need a larger mattress than is what is on a normal hospital bed look into a Bariatric hospital bed. That would be wider than a normal hospital bed. A normal hospital bed might be 37 to 39 inches and a bariatric hospital bed could be as wide as 48 to 54 inches. Keep in mind the wider the bed the more difficult it might be for the caregiver.
If PT will be coming in to give mom a lot of therapy, get their opinion on an adjustable bed before you do anything. They may prefer one over the other for reasons we do not know, but are vital to mom recuperating.
Good luck.
