Find Care & Housing
If your dad is a Veteran and if he needs a caregiver contact the VA or your local Veterans Assistance Commission or your States Department of Veterans Affairs. The VA will pay family and now they even will pay a spouse to be a caregiver.

Call your local county Medicaid Department to see if your state will pay family caregivers.

I know in NYS there is a program through community care Medicaid but Your father will need meet the qualifications and there is an application process. Also, pay is basically minimum wage with no wiggle room.

Shayne89, anyone can become a caregiver to a parent, just by helping out. It all depends on if he just needs occasional help where you can continue to work full time outside of his home.... or if he needs around the clock care where you would need to leave your job.

If you need to leave a job, make sure your have enough in savings for what you need and for your own retirement. Around the clock care is very exhausting as you would be doing the work of three full-time caregivers each day, with very limited sleep.

You Mean paid? Dad would need to pay you if he can afford it. Anyone can be a caregiver. Certification helps but I know people who love the work and are good at it with no certification.

If you need to be paid and Dad can't pay you, then your can try Medicaid to see if he fits the criteria.
