My husband is 70 and has Becker's Muscular Dystrophy that is inherited. His left foot had turned out from being in wheelchair for the past 30 years. He had some physical therapy 20 years ago. His doctor referred him to orthopedic doctor who referred him to physical therapy. He went to physical therapy 2 days a week for an hour each day, which helped to loosen his tight leg muscles. But then they stopped having appointments for the time he needed which is around 3:00pm. Things like this has been happening to us the past 3 years with his in home care agency. The more he or I need help due to him having a doctor's appointment the less the caregivers are available. But, when he or I don't have appointments and can manage, the more the caregivers show up on time to mostly sit and talk to me. Not much help. I have specifically asked for help a certain day which I shouldn't have to because he gets 2 hours a day for 5 days per week. But the agency scheduler will just tell me "I'm sorry we don't have anyone". It is as if the agency is trying to "run us off". He needs a CNA2 and they say there is a shortage. I understand that because next step after CNA2 is LPN or RN. I said all of that to tell you that you are not alone in this adult caregiving situation. It is very frustrating when the helping agencies can't or won't help. My husband's care is paid for by our county social services Adult and Aging Services program. Each state and county gets government grants for this program. I would advise you call your local social services and ask about Adult and Aging Services for in home care and respite care. I hope it helps to know there is someone else that is experiencing the same thing.

I came across an official article from Medicare which talks about "Medicare Savings Programs" that can help with Medicare costs, including, but not limited to, Part B and D premiums. Each state operates its own programs and makes the rules for income and assets. The best way to find out more information, is to contact your state's SHIP. SHIP = State Health Insurance Assistance Programs.
