She is so finicky about eating and need some ideas. She plays with the food, forgets it's food and forgets what to do with the fork. I need ideas because she seems to like so few things.

My mother is a adult onset diet controlled diabetic. The past few month she does not like the food I cook. . I make lots of homemade soups which she does not like. I made her beans with homemade coleslaw, and she stated the food was great. I decided that I will give her foods she likes even though the foods have more carbs and sugar and may not be the best choice at least it better than not eating at all. I make smoothies she likes that, whole grain toast with almond butter and a little jelly, grilled veggie cheese sandwiches, honest grape juice, veggie meatloaf she loves, salmon, potatoes, and peas for dinner. I try to make her food look attractive. To get her drinking water I cut up strawberries in a glass of water. She usually drinks the water and then tries to get the strawberries at the bottom of the glass. It can be a challenge but it usually works. Tuna finger sandwiches are a good choice. Bananas, blueberries, strawberries, and a little whip cream dessert. Gerber baby food, such as pears, carrots, blueberry and banana, green beans with fruit. I give this to my mother if she is not eating well. Most of the time she eats well and is such a big eater, She weighs 124lbs. I take her out to lunch often and she usually gets the same thing. Fish, potatoes and a vegetable. Try certain foods and see what she likes the best. I sometimes need to feed my mom if she is too shaky or does not pick up her folk.. She does better with finger foods. I sometimes tell my mother she will not get dessert unless she eats her dinner. This works sometimes. I keep a close eye on my mothers blood sugars and adjust her food as needed, Her A1C was 5.7 a few weeks ago which is excellent. I have to be careful because of her chronic UTI's. The doctors know I do not follow a strict 2000 Cal ADA diet because she is so fussy and she will not eat everything I prepare these days. I hope I helped a little. The best to you and your mom.

It sounds like she needs to be fed. If she can't remember it is food she may not remember how to put it on the utensil and put it in her mouth.
