I am the primary caretaker for my mother who is in a private independent care facility--but she is hardly independent. I have a nurse in with her Monday through Friday, but on weekends and evenings either I'm with her most of the time or a member of my family when I'm sick. Yesterday when I went to see her I discovered the facility wouldn't let me in at all--only medical personnel. My mom just got out of the hospital due to congestive heart failure and she has advancing Alzheimer's. I can't believe I can't even get in to see her.

One of our mountain towns has passed an ordinance where the town will pay the rent for downtown area businesses. Makes sense, the town needs these merchants to be able to reopen, and the landlords to continue maintenance and payments on those buildings. Quite the trickle down effect.
One of the mountain counties has adopted a resolution to make it illegal for anyone to sell anything that is not essential, actually developed a list. Imagine Walmart only selling food, no clothing, makeup, toys, recreational equipment, kitchen appliances and the list goes on and on.
I called the lab. They're allowing 5 people at a time into the lab. Line goes out side the building's door. Mostly elderly people. Recommends I try to come in at 9am. She laughed when I mumbled, "I wonder if I can last that long without coffee."

W/o going into detail, the mask can help protect YOU against voluntary or involuntary "expulsions" (for lack of a more dignified term) from others. That includes sneezing, coughing, hacking or talking adults or children.
I guess we never know how much we might be releasing from our mouths, just by opening them, or what might be released from our nasal passages, especially when sneezing.
On another issue, my niece is also making hair masks as that's what they're wearing as well, and as might be anticipated in this shortage of needed supplies, they need the hair masks as well.
It's unfortunate that so many people offering opinions have their own ideas, influenced or not by their own experiences and professions, b/c the mixed messages that are being sent aren't offering comfort to the rest of us.

I understand they wanted to save masks for people working in hospitals, it's fair enough and they do have priority, but saying that masks won't protect you is taking it too far. It happened the same here. It's simply false, in China the only people who didn't catch the virus were the ones wearing masks indoor, it has been proven.
Some parishes are now doing curfews along with mandatory lockdown.

A pastor of o Pentecostal church in the Baton Rouge area has been arrested because he won’t stop holding services. That’s just crazy! Our governor has told him to stop. Apparently, he feels he is above the law! Ridiculous religious fanaticism.
Be cautious, clean products from stores. One of our big stores closed for cleaning. Yep! Trader Joe’s in Metairie, La. (burb of New Orleans) has been shut down for cleaning because two employees tested positive for the virus. Grrrrr.
Even doctors disagree.

But hubs is out riding his bike, and that is supposed to be okay.
But using a public restroom, or going to a park or trail that is closed is not ok. Going inside the bike store is not advisable, even though they are open. Having a bike accident will take up ER beds and time, and will also expose him to C-19. Using a bus to get home because he gets tired is also not ok.
Bringing the virus home is also not ok.
Why won't people that can stay home, just stay home to limit the spread of the virus? Especially people who do not have the cognitive ability to be safe 'out there'?
I don't get it. I hate it that people want to make their own excuses why it is okay for them to not be safer at home.

Wondering if I should have followed the "prepper's" advice so that we could stay 100% at home and not go out for groceries, putting those workers at risk, as well as ourselves.
The employees are not wearing gloves, or mask, not maintaining their distance, and wanting to do good customer service, will talk for some time to a customer through their car door window, or if a customer walks up to them to talk. We stopped picking up food ordered to go for this reason, from these restaurants.
It does not help at all if the public stands behind you 1-2 ft. in line at a grocery store. We had to jump out of line to maintain any distance.
So that is why we do not shop that way anymore. It is a learning situation, we tried, but stopped early March.
Looking again for delivery online, but if we had to, we could be ok for 25-30 days, I think. Now is critical to avoid going out.
A few weeks ago the new County Exec, who took over after the long serving very competent one passed, held a telephone "town hall" Q & A session for seniors. I called in, was linked up, and listened for an hour or so to questions from seniors.
The Exec was accompanied by 2 nurses, but I don't recall w/o checking notes what their titles were although I had the impression they were County staff nurses.
Before asking their questions, callers would be announced by a member of the County team, with a first name, and location, something like "this is Betty, from Happy Lake Township." Four times callers' last names were used, such as "...Betty Jones, from Happy Lake Township."
These are presumably all older people, yet this dumbbell was stating their full names on a telephone call with perhaps 4K people. Had any assumptions been made about security of these people who were directly identified? Who knows?
I called later and complained about this to one of the male staffers, and informed him I thought it was irresponsible and risky to name callers, especially vulnerable seniors, by last name and location.
Yet these were nurses (and it's possible that the Exec participated - I don't really recall for sure) were doing this, and presumably we should listen to the other advice they're giving? Their advice might be sound medically, but the lack of common sense made it less likely for me to accept the validity of their responses.
I spent the Whole day typing the daily events of this virus on island - on an Excel chart that I made. A Statistic n Public Announcement Chart.... / Date, Press Release #1 onward, total confirmed, sex, # hospitalized, # stable, # death, exposed travel where, age ranges, n public announcements... / By the end of the day, the figures were not adding up. I reread from beginning, and still not adding up. I decided to ignore my OCD in trying to ‘balance’ the figures... Visually, the first couple of days, it was the elderlies - over 60. Then the middle ages started popping up. Now those in their 20s. So far, none under age 20... 77 confirmed cases. 3 deaths, all elderly.

Although TP and commodities aren't officially rationed, the shortages we're seeing are reminding me of my parents' reminisces.
My region- Lombardy - and Veneto are pushing the government for having everybody's serum tested asap, so that at least we'll know who is (perhaps temporarily) already immune and who's not. Who knows, maybe they'll be able to do it also for animals. If they do, I'll have my cat tested too.
We just have to find a way to 1.Stay Alive during the acute phase 2. Find an intelligent way to re-integrate immune people in society 3. Find a vaccine
His sons will carry on his legacy. They are all incredible musicians.
He inspired so many. He taught so many well known musicians. He started a wonderful fine arts academy here for our youth, along with leading a program at University of New Orleans.
He and his sons are multiple Grammy winners. He gave so much back to our city. Too many things to list.
Friday nights at Snug Harbor were always special when he played. We will miss him at our jazz and heritage festival. RIP, Ellis. 💗
What I was not prepared for was.....large plastic shields at the register. They put a smaller one around the register itself and then a larger one in front of the bagging area. At our Nob hill you don’t unload your cart, it goes right up to the register and the clerk pulls the items out one by one and scans them and places them in the bagging area. These big plastic shields are no doubt a safety measure but it was....a reality check of sorts. I guess because I don’t get out much right now, it was a harsh reality check of the times we are in right now. I do have to say it is nice to see the store is doing what they can to protect their essential employees!
It really is a big reality to our new world. The last time I went to Lowe's they had those plastic shields up at the register and the cashier was telling me how a few of their cashiers got spit on and told "I hope you get Covid-19" by some customers. Talk about nasty people! I couldn't even imagine doing that to someone!
When I went to the store today to pick up a few items I heard some people (maybe in their late 20's early 30's) saying that the whole Covid-19 isn't real..."people are making to much out of all this." I wanted to yell "Really, ARE YOU THAT DUMB?" But I didn't! I just grabbed what I needed and left! I have no idea how these people are going to 'get it!'

Perfect example of ‘they don’t know that they don’t know.’ No point of even addressing people like that. Complete waste of time and energy. I have had to remind myself that there will always be ignorance and arrogance in this world. Sad, but true.

I have similar anxiety and sheer panic at times. Only I know him and understand him. I can give him his chocolate, thicken his root beer and give him his little kisses, sing his favorite classic country tunes. I can jog his memory, make him repeat the pledge of allegiance and I know what the tanker was named. Tha tanker my father boarded for the South Pacific in 1943. WWII.
OK. I'm sobbing now. I know he isn't getting hydrated cuz the NH has skeleton crew on. Things aren't going as well as they say. I just know that's all. It is what it is and this lack of control is difficult. I've always been a fierce and passionate advocate for my father. I can't stand doing nothing so I bought a laptop for the CNA to pit on when I call so we can vidcam.....maybe they will even fix it so we can watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy together! Well see! Maybe u could do something like that? Might be a while. I'm trying to keep busy so I don't worry so much. Stress has my teeth hurting even! Headaches!

Anyhow I am in AZ but I don't have any relatives in AZ and my only living aunts are in Missouri or Australia. Haven't a clue why that screen name is listed. Curious.
She asked if talking him to urge t care was a good idea and I told her yes, as long as she called first. She did, and the UC place examined him and sent him to the ER. I just heard that he passed away last night, no idea from what cause. So very sad.
Not being flippant or minimizing the situation, but we can't get upset when countries do things that are not out of the normal.
I want to know how many deaths that nation had daily before covid 19 and how many body bags did they have prior to utilizing them for covid victims, common sense tells me that anything used to handle dead bodies infected with a highly contagious virus should be replaced to avoid unnecessary contamination after the crisis.
China is not the only nation hiding the facts. No news out of Africa and I know that they are dealing with the virus without any of the modern medicine and hospitals that other countries have. Just to name one.
Heavy controls are in place to keep people from losing their minds.

Data control and free speech are also controlled, in part b/c of the nature of these authoritarian regimes.
