cfcombs,

I read that you got an increase in the aid and dependence in the pension. I can't find the information I filed (or thought I had) in my electronic mailbox, but I have read that there is financial help for veterans that is not related to their pension. I don't think they have to be 100% disabled. However there are requirements that must be met such as served one day during a wartime period if my memory serves me correctly.

Check with the DAV which is an group that represents veterans in claims against the VA. If I find the information, I will post it on this website. Good luck.

OK, I finally found the website. It is

www1.va.gov/geriatricsshg/

When perusing this site make sure you go to the bottom of the page and click on the blue link that states " long term care fast facts. " Hopefully there are other programs on this site that will assist your situation.

You may also want to consider contacting the DAV, American Legion or another advocate group to assist you with the legalities with the VA. They know the ropes. Good luck.

There should be a satilite office for vet help in a town near you- look on the www.va.gov site for locations of offices near you. THe one I went thru was Fort Payne, AL they filed the papers for me- Go see them and explain you need help and what can you do to file for more help They will tell you what you need to do and will help you- My Dad fell and fractured his back and now is bed ridden he is 85 They helped him get him maximum benifit because he has to have 24 hr care. I had to get a copy of the Dr's report on his medical condition and if it wasn't for that- I could not make it at all. But it did take 7 months for them to reply and I had to seen the papers twice. but they did back pay from the month you filed for the assistance. Hope this helps.
