If, down in the thread, someone (not the OP) asks a new but related question to a person who has answered the original question, is it appropriate for other posters to respond?
If the new question is not sent as a private message but as a response to a particular answer, is it considered an open forum question?
I ask because some of the ‘respond to….’ questions I’ve seen have been the most interesting and thought provoking but I don’t know the protocol and don’t want to risk pulling the thread off track. I also wouldn’t want the new question to be lost in the shuffle.
I hope that convoluted question makes sense……
I would say that the Forum is kind of accepting of all kinds of things. If someone thinks something is out of line they certainly are quick enough to suggest to the OP "Maybe make your own question a separate thread; you'll get better answers". Often we report questions we think would be better in "discussions". Actually that's where I think this one should be posted. But it doesn't really matter.
I only have one problem with AC and that's how often we get OFF of the question that was asked by the OP into the thickets of arguments with one another. We are all different and that should be a good thing. The OPs can kick one set of responses to the curb and embrace another. And that's a good thing.
I wouldn't overworry it. I don't know exactly what you mean and if you PM me the instance that made you wonder about this, perhaps I could answer better? But--hee hee--perhaps not.
Take care.
