How do I Scam Thee, Let me Count The Ways...

Now some experts say do not answer an unknown caller. In 3 seconds, the scammer has collected information about you.. your voice, "Hello" can be copied and used to scam you. And if you talk a bit more, you're giving them more ammunition without knowing.. they listen and record you snd your surrounding noises...whatever bit of info, is enough for somebody to get paid in exchange for 3 seconds. The news today said someone was arrested for collecting illegal signatures to "help get a bill on the voting ballot for people to vote on it. This man had stolen ID's and paid some homeless people to forge a signature. The more signatures he gets, the more money he makes. According to the news, he made $41,000.00 ! When I see these signature collectors, I wonder if this is really real? Or, will they be using your signature and ID for illegal purposes.. (?) I don't know...

Crypto is the currency of the criminal after all. This is the world all of us are forced to live in whether we like it or not.

its a shame people are such crooks. Feeding on the fears or insecurities.

I guess it's getting worse.

This is a good topic for the Discussions section.

I know someone that had this exact thing happen to them: voice phishing. The scammers got a "sample" of a young woman's voice. They then contacted this young woman's parents and used her AI generated voice to "speak" to her parents, then the scammers telling them she'd been kidnapped, not to involve any police or agents or they'd harm her and to deposit $25k of crypto (which is a dead giveaway, it's such a low amount to demand).

Her poor terrified parents did exactly this, not bothering to call their daughter's number themselves (because scammers can make the call appear to come from anyone's phone number) or her friends or checking her social media. This happened almost 10 years ago.
