Where ever you live, you should be able to find full service Assisted Living/Nursing Home combined facilities. Unless you are sure you have finances to pay privately for the rest of both of your lives, I advise looking for a nice facility but one that does accept Medicaid. My Mom is in one here that offers independent living apartments, assisted living with various stages of staff assistance and then memory care if/when needed as well. They do NOT have a nursing home attached. There is a requirement to meet as far as being private pay for a certain length of time, but then, when you are eligible for Medicaid, you stay in the same facility...different apartment type living. There is an extra charge for rent, for spouse or friend to live in who really needs no help....but here, it's $200/mo only to cover extra dining room usage, laundry etc. Our elder care attorney is the one who advised that we start by finding a place that ultimately would accept Medicaid, to assure that Mom (and Dad while he was alive) would not be forced to move again, if their money ran low. Residents get Medicaid rooms faster than those looking from the outside too. Hope this helps. Actually, our law office was able to give me a list when we started looking....of all the places in town that had Medicaid beds....so we just started our search from that list.

Look up Terry Wahls, MD. Wahls had suffered from MS for 8 years. She was able to reverse her symptoms through lifestyle changes, primarily diet. Best of luck to you.

For couples with differing care needs, there's typically a 'second person fee' that covers the spouse who's not receiving care. Be sure to have the salesperson spell out everything that's included and, if you would still provide some of your wife's care, compare the cost and services against living together in independent living and bringing in home care. Depending upon the community, you both may enjoy the lifestyle more with that option.

There are so many nice facilities out there. If you dont have any family to help you find one then I suggest you contact Area Agency on Aging and ask them to refer you to a placement consultant
You could also connect with a consultant through the assisted living section on this website. They will let you know what is available in your area. I wish you both the best. Let us know how things turn out. Your search will help others.

I understand that some Sunrise Homes do offer that service, even in the memory care area. My dad had that option (just pay an additional $$ for the food) when mom was in a Sunrise for about 2 months before she died; dad declined to be with her, and opted to llive with my husband and me, which he happily did until his death recently.

My mom really loved Good Samaritan in Denton, TX. All levels of care, can live in main building apartments or in duplex on grounds. Takes VA benefits. She was from California, then Arizona, but adapted well.
