My Mom has lived with Parkinson's for at least 15 years. Her symptoms have not really progressed as much as I thought they would. She lives in her own apt. with a lot of help from us. She can do most things - just very slowly. The symptoms of Parkinson's are so varied for each person...I need to know what condition your family member is in.
I just spoke with an ALF director this evening. Even though Mom would like to stay in her home, I think she would really benefit from the social interaction. Each ALF is different, but this one would assist Mom with the things she needs due to Parkinson's. Also, my Mom has no diminished mental capacity - so a NH is not at all the right placement. Her issues are mainly mobility.
Each facility is different. But I like what I heard from this one. (It is Emeritus...they have facilities in many states.)
good luck

Assisted Living is too expensive for us working people. Only one that seems to know Parkinson's or will believe me when I report symptoms is his neurologist. I wish u luck in your search. Prayers for ur loved one.
