Plan of Care - At Homewatch CareGivers in West Springfield, we have worked with many clients who are living with some cognition issues and so we create a plan of care accordingly. In order to provide the best care for these individuals, we have developed “engagement boxes,” which our care partners (caregivers) are trained to use with our clients. Several of our clients use to go to the beach, and we developed a “beach box”, which gives them a chance to experience the sights, sounds, and more of the beach so that all five senses are stimulated. Utilizing the items in the box memories are triggered for them. That memory retrieval initiates positive “win win” communication with the client. Another component which we always include is music. Music stimulates memory retrieval. Music is the last sensory stimulation component that someone with dementia tends to lose.
Your home care service plan may include: Bathing, Dressing, Grooming & Toileting, Housekeeping & Laundry, Meals, Errands & Transportation, Medications, Social Engagement, Safety Precautions, Quality Oversight, Lifestyle, and Care Communication.
Our Story - Peter and I became involved with our Homewatch CareGivers business in July of 2002. We had gained many years of varied experience in our previous careers but yearned for the opportunity to make a real difference. Owning our own Western Mass home care agency satisfied that need as well as career independence and security which is so important. Both of us had experienced first hand, both near and far, the trials and tribulations of managing our parents’ health. We were what people call now the “sandwich generation” i.e. managing 2 full time jobs, raising a family, and dealing with the well being of our parents. Over the years, we have learned so much from that experience and from owning this business. We enjoy sharing our knowledge and helping all those family members who are struggling with their lack of familiarity, anguish, and feelings of guilt regarding their best interest and that of their parents who are declining. We hear so many questions from so many caring loving family members - it’s really quite satisfying to receive the “thank you’s” after guiding them through the maze of programs, options, and services that are available to help.
