I had every intention of hitting the grocery store on the way back from my haircut this afternoon but they had to cancel and now I don’t feel like shopping. So Ana, I will not be making my hubby happy at least until my scheduled grocery pickup on Friday.

After Friday I will have ingredients for several hearty, old-timey casseroles - I’ve really been craving them since it’s started to get chilly at night. We’ll get the fire pit going this weekend when GD is here. She and her GF can gorge on S’mores while my daughter and I enjoy a craft Pumpkin Ale. I love Autumn!

My mom (90 this month) can’t really taste chocolate anymore. When she told me I went into mourning! That happened to me while on chemo but it came back after a year.
Golden, I don’t know which would be worse, not being able to taste it or not being able to eat it due to health reasons.

Nacy, can you add something like a spoonful of good quality instant coffee or hersheys syrup to your protein drinks? When DH was recovering from heart surgery I would blend one with a frozen banana and a spoonful of peanut butter.

Tonight, taco salad again. It’s a staple for us. Sadly, avocados haven’t been good lately so that’s probably it for them this year. I’d choose an avocado with lemon pepper over chocolate any day!

Golden, I can't drink my milk, I can eat ice cream any of that but drinking it sends my intestines in shock.

I use to drink a boost most mornings, so recently bought a plant based protein drink. More expensive for sure but they do last longer, since they taste like card board. lol there just sitting in my fridge.

I'm hoping I'll be able acquire, a taste for them.

I've had some rather good vegan chocolate too.

Maybe try a vegan bakery, if you have one in your area. Oh nevermind, that's still chocolate, just no milk. Won't help you. Sorry

nacy -sounds good. I wish I had more room for storing/freezing food. Home made apple sauce is the best.

psue - I love popcorn with lots of "butter" - in my case earth balance marg. I often cook for R and eat something else myself.

Tonight ham steak, roasted veggies - opo squash with cinnamon, onions and cucumbers with dill - and perogies.

Amazon got my dairy free chocolate here after supper. I tried a square of a dark choc bar. It is dairy free but - meh - not up to the really good chocolate I like, but better than nothing - I think. The 5 chili one should be interesting. Maybe I will use it in a mole sauce.

All my fall harvesting is done and finished, in jars or freezer! 😁

I'm actually thinking I , am going to find time to make and freeze apple sauce.

Just gotta go to are local Apple orchard and get seconds.

Just an idea of a side dish I love, thin spaghetti, cooked al dente, then save a half of cup of the stock you cooked it in.

Heat up a few tablespoons of olive oil, add garlic, parsley, the spaghetti, the stock, fry it for like ten minutes.

Season to taste. It's really good.and simple

Tonight for DH it’s night #2 of the Sloppy Joe Casserole inspired by pamz. It’s really good but I remembered why I haven’t made it in such a long time - It’s too labor intensive for a busy day. I’m glad I made one for the freezer although I’m a little worried about the pasta getting mushy.

For me it’s a Wine and Whine night with a girlfriend so crackers and cheeses, nuts and figs and lots of catching up! We’ll wrap up in fleece throws on the deck and watch the bats.

cwillie, everybody is complaining about the new Pepsi packaging. It’s very good looking and I appreciate the effort for the environment but I think they need to go back to the drawing board.

Oh dear. R brought home a container of oysters the other day I was trying to forget about. He correctly said this evening that these should be cooked. I hadn't egged and bread crumbed anything in years and years.

Guess what? They turned out ok. Next time I will have some gluten free bread crumbs on hand so I can eat them too.

Does anyone have a fave oyster recipe?

Greek. Husband and I went into the city for dental check-ups. We are taking good care of our teeth but are apparently too old to choose toys from the treasure chest. So we treated ourselves to dinner at a nearby restaurant. Saganaki! Opa!

Psue - it was during my early instacart days. There was one particularly ditzi shopper who seemed to throw extra things in my cart. A few apples was translated to a large bag, one six pack of romaine hearts was doubled and so on. She didn't last long.

R freezes eggs when they have too many at the farm. He just cracks them and throws a few in a baggie and into the freezer - good for baking, scrambled or whatever.

Tonight I made a version of bubble and squeak - cooked them in patties rather than a whole pan full. We had leftover mashed potatoes and left over brussels sprouts which are traditional for bubble and squeak. I cooked bacon to serve with the patties and we had tomatoes from the farmer's market. Not the healthiest meal but R pronounced it good. I had to pass on the patties due to milk and butter in the mashed potatoes. One of these days I'll make proper latkes.

Nacy - I had 4 kids, (three boys) and often extras in the house and a husband with a big appetite. I still cook for six often. It's hard to break that habit.

Peas, I think I would put new eggs out to watch the ravens.

We have predator birds and it is difficult to see them swoop in on doves or other birds but, I would feed them eggs to stop :-)

I discovered the egg freezing during covey and thought I would see how well it worked, I was happy dancing. I'm easy to entertain. Hope you all have great results if you try it.

I had no idea you could freeze eggs like that! Brilliant! All this time I was letting my granddaughter place old eggs strategically on top of rocks in the yard so we could watch the ravens try to carry them off, whole! Wasteful, but highly entertaining.

Tonight it’s homemade baked chicken burritos (shredded breast, brown rice, black beans, fire roasted corn, cheddar) and green salad with a gorgeous tomato from SIL’s garden.

Freezing is another good way to store eggs. I beat them gently, do not want air in them if possible, then give an ice cube tray a quick olive oil spritz, freeze and then store in a ziploc bag. 3 cubes is the equivalent of 2 eggs.

They are great for recipes or even scrambled eggs.

I have to say that I did not even know eggs had a best by date until my husband asked me about it. I was like, whaaaat? No, eggs don't go bad unless they are bad, only 1 in my life and there was no question that baby was bad, ewwww!

When my husband worked Shift work I would cook all day and send him and one other hungry friend dinners .

He was very missed when he retired. 😁

Oh heck yeah, I've always eaten eggs that are past the best before date with no ill effects, it's just that I already had most of a dozen in my fridge.
I had to look up campanelle, it's kind of similar to rotini I think (okay I've had another look and they're nothing like rotini!)
Two cans of tomatoes and one of sauce must make a big batch!

Willie , I do things like that too. Actually I think eggs last a lot longer than the sell by date.

I'm having chicken bites sized pieces, cooked , 2 cans of basil and garlic diced tomatoes, one can of tomato sauce, onions all the good seasoning, a pinch of hot pepper. Spinach,

Served over campanelle, it's simmering now. Smells sooo good.
