I have been no contact for over 2 weeks. The neighbor called today and said there was an ambulance in the driveway
I said ya, ok what?
I am sitting here not worried whether he is alive or not and not stressed in the least. It's weird how I stopped caring so fast.

Find Care & Housing
Of course you have a heart and will always care, but that doesn't mean you are going to be an unpaid caregiver slave to someone who is abusive.

Keep going forward, you are doing great. I would block the nosy neighbor's number as well. Get used to the freedom and peace you now have. You made it happen, and can continue your road back to sanity and a normal life.

It's easy to dump that stress and abuse out of your life, you have to simply realize you do not deserve it. It's not weird, it's a blessing. Breathe it in deep!

You should have cut off contact with the neighbor, too!
No need for a busybody neighbor calling you with updates on a situation you have extricated yourself from!

I agree with JoAnn, perhaps you are feeling guilty for not caring more.
You are not guilty of anything. You have done nothing wrong. And your feelings are valid. You count. You matter. You are not responsible for the toxic relationship with your father. You are not responsible for him, and you do not need to do anything right now.

And block the phone number of anyone who tries to contact you regarding this man.

This is what it is, you feel guilty because you literally don't care anymore. Congrats on finally getting to this point. This man has been nothing but an albatross around your neck. You tried to help Mom and him and were told you weren't needed. You have put a lot of guilt and stress on yourself because of them. Now maybe Dad will get the help he needs because you are not an option. Take no calls from the hospital. Don't be available to anyone.

If he passes, he lived his life the way he wanted to. It may have been better if he had let you in but...that was his choice not yours. You can't help someone if they don't want your help. You did what you could, now time to let the guilt go and others take over.
