First, my whine: I am a little disgusted at how much I depend on the internet around here. We have to stream tv because we can’t get a clear satellite signal - too many tall trees - and although I don’t watch during the day it is helpful for occupying DH while I work. My weakness is my iPad (obviously). Not just for Christmas shopping, which I planned to have finished by Halloween, but won’t this year because of the outage, but because of all the day-to-day business I need to do. You never know what a hole it leaves until you don’t have internet for a week! How did we ever live without it?

Nacy, are you cruising on warm seas or cold seas in January? I’ve never been on a cruise. Not sure if I would enjoy it…maybe a US river cruise would be fun - I’d like to see the Mississippi……

Peasuep, oh it's crazy how much we depend on things like Internet, you don't realize until you don't have it.

Last week I colored my hair, went to rinse it off, and because of the road work, we had no water pressure. So I'm trying to get it out with dribbling water. Prefect time🥴

Yes, we are just trying to travel, believe it or not, May was my first time ever on an airplane, we went to New Orleans, it was a bit stressful, a few glitches but traveling all new to both of us.

Then some friends we play boccie with , asked us to go on a cruise with them. Hubby said sure , I'm like , eeeekkkk , another adventure, when I didn't even come down from New Orleans adventure. Yes it's a southern cruise, first time ever
And are friends know how we are, we actually both might be dyslexic, because neither of us have any sence of direction. And are friends help us do all the booking stuff.

Then I have to go to Ireland in September 25. For my son's wedding, hubby said he isn't going, now he is changing his mind. 😂. 🤯🤯🤯 My minds blowing up.

I just got a text that as of Dec 16 my prepaid phone provider is no longer providing this service, but I can switch over to their other brand (for more money).... I guess people have known about this for 7 months but it's the first I'm hearing of it.

Cwillie, No surprise there, of course they want you to spend more on a phone. it all stinks how much and how fast they are changing things.
I feel your pain.

I really do good, just trying to deal with the changes, and go with the flow. But....... It's all getting to much.

I couldnt get anyone to wait on me at Wendy's the other day because I didn't want to use the , thing-a-ma-gig. Kiosk? Maybe

Report

I hate using the kiosk, or self checkouts, or any of those things that used to be handled by a real live person. Yes there are times when it's convenient, but there are plenty of times where it saves no time at all.
And I just don't think it's wise to have your whole life on your phone the way so many do today, I like to build redundancies into my life so if something happens to one thing I've got a backup somewhere else.

Anxiety ,

My son worked at McDonald’s part time when he was in high school . He said all fast food places , the employees get told to prioritize the drive thru . Just do that .

He said he saw customers go thru the drive thru , get their order , then park and bring the food in and sit down to eat . It was faster .

The kiosk forces you to use a credit card . That stinks .

I was ‘instructed’ to scan the code to check DH in for his flu and Covid vaccines this time. My phone is an antique android - it doesn’t support scanning anything! The pharmacist came out of his box to show me, thinking I just didn’t know how. He was quite surprised that a ‘smart’ phone couldn’t do that. He just didn’t know the vintage! Time for a new one I guess.

Nacy, what wonderful friends you have! I think the whole process of travel has changed so much in the last few years - it’s really scary to go anywhere unless you have a member of the Geek Squad along! My DD is really good at it all but even she has admitted to getting that fluttery feeling in her stomach whenever she has to fly or get an Uber.

I am jealous of your cruise - you’re going to have a blast! And a wedding in Ireland sounds magical! Congratulations mom-of-the-groom! I hope your husband goes; it sounds like a once in a lifetime opportunity and sharing it with him would make it extra special.

You mean a QR code Peasuep? I've run into this too, my store is increasingly posting digital coupons that I can't access, and last year when trying to register for my charity run I was told no problem, just scan this code. Yeah no, my phone does calls and texts and I can navigate very well with downloaded maps, I've got WIFI if I need anything else. That's why I've only been paying $15/month for my phone plan. And yes I still have a land line. Because I like to actually hear what people are saying.

Yes, cwillie, thank you. I knew that doohickey had a name!
I knew I was in trouble when a few years ago I saw my first QR code displayed on a restaurant table instead of a menu! Rude! It takes so much away from the ‘nice dinner out’ experience for everyone to gather around a table and become hypnotized by screen-glow.
Then again, I grew up in the days when restaurants had ashtrays on the tables.

I think I will rewind today and start again. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

I ordered new cutting boards for the kitchen and IT arrived today. I had to laugh when I saw it. There as only one and I had ordered a set of two - and it was dinky and not the size I ordered - like 6"x10" vs 13" x 10" My current ones are 15.5" x 11" and I have been having trouble finding a set of two the same size that I like. To return it, I have to take it to the nearest store and I suspect they will not refund shipping charges, which were more than half the price - hardly worth it. May as well just have gone there and bought something I liked. Back to square one. I saw stainless steel ones advertised but they must be very hard on your knives. Apparently chefs use rubber ones.

Further correspondence regarding my grocery order total basically said yes your groceries subtotalled $xxx and we charged you $yyy so "What's your problem? Refer back to your original receipt." My problem is not the receipt but that the subtotal they had online was $yyy. When I learned arithmetic the subtotal was the figure arrived at by adding the list. The figure they quoted as a subtotal was not that, it was several $ more. Maybe there are legitimate extra charges for something. I just want to know what they are. That seems reasonable to me.

Then R brought me my coffee and said "Here's a new swimming pool for your mouse" LOL.

Incidentally that mouse has been working fine except I dropped it in the bedroom and the battery cover came off and refuses to be found. Bonus, I got the floors done, R lifted the furniture and all. I borrowed a battery cover from a similar mouse and it is doing fine. Where DO these thing go??? It's got to turn up somewhere sometime.

Golden, it is very possible to laugh and cry at the same time, thank goodness, since a day like yours certainly requires it!

’Rewind’ - such a good word! But I think it’s obsolete. Does anything rewind anymore? What word do the youngsters use instead? I think my thinking processes are being affected by too much sugar….

Which leads me to my Whine - Reese’s Peanut Butter Skulls. Did you know they can actually call you from another room?

Peasuep, 😂 that's funny, and yes I did know that. 😂

Golden by the way, the other day I grabbed my sheets off the bed, put them all in the washer, then dryer, and turned the dryer on, kept hearing clunk clunk clunk, the bedroom TV remote! Dryer it out in rice, so far it's working

psue - it's not candy that calls my name b/c I don't keep any in the house except a little for R, that doesn't raise blood sugar, and they are his in my mind and it's too sweet for me anyway. But a good fry can call me from across town! Fortunately most days I am too lazy to follow the call.
You'll have to oil your skeleton ala the tin man in the Wizard of Oz.

Obsolete? What's obsolete? I'm probably obsolete. lol I doubt youngsters use anything like that. No rewinding - just throw it way! Then R will come along and find it, and make something useful out of it, I'm rambling now...

nacy - wow - went through the washer and the dryer and still works That's amazing.

Hi everyone. I just thought I would pop in and wish everyone well. It has been 8 years since I was here. The caregiving for my mom while she was dying bedridden in my home on hospice was hard. I miss her everyday. Today would have been her 102 birthday. I lost my mother-in-law, and sister in law, and a close cousin as well after that.
We retired out of state and am adjusting to that. Caregiving for a loved one is something you never forget no matter the changes in life afterward. I care for my husband now with his heart condition. Sending my love and prayers to all you caregivers out there, Katie22.

Golden - if there is a story behind the rat we will never know. Mom has no idea how or when it got in the washer, just that when she opened the lid at the end of the cycle, out it came! This was in the SF Bay Area; roof rats were common but washer rats???

Well, it finally happened today. DH’s last remaining household chore became mine. Trash Day.
This is a true whine; that driveway is steep and that trash can is heavy. And I appreciate him for all the years he has done it so I didn’t have to. But he can’t understand the steps anymore and honestly, he isn’t as strong as I am. : (

Pea, does your garbage can have wheels? Still heavy but better. Sounds like you have quite the long driveway.

I know of people who wheel their empty can to the curb and then pull a wagon full of trash bags out to fill it there - picture hauling trash cans on long gravel drives in winter.

I was actually thinking about that too. If peasuep, could hide the can behind a tree or something and bring the garbage out there.

When there is a will , there is away. And we all have to do what makes are life easier, and forgo looks , or what will the neighbors think.

I think that’s what I’ll have to do….wheel the bin up empty and haul up the bags. DH may still be able to help for a while if I bag it all up.
During the growing season there will be problems but that should get us through the winter.
Thanks Nacy and cw for scooping me out of my 24 hr. pity puddle!

Here is my 'Whine Moment'. Yet fake posts and trolling seems to be fine and the admins and it stays. There's my whine moment.

@Peasup

Is it possible to leave your garbage bin in the spot it gets picked up and use a cart to haul your garbage bags down to it? I've got a long driveway and the garbage can situation gets complicated because we're not allowed to leave the cans visible at the end of the driveway or in the yard.

Just to add about yesterday issues, there is a lot of tension in are world right now. We all are sitting next to a giant white elephant, and pretending it's not there, which is the way it has to be.
